As one of the seven First-Level national processing centres, Chengdu Postal Bureau is an important postal and telecom hub in the country, the largest one in south-western China.

 

Network

As the telecommunication hub in South-West China, Chengdu provides direct dialling phone services to over 180 countries and regions.

Chengdu is an Internet centre in South-West China as well as the centre of China Education and Research Network.

The total bandwidth of internet transmission of Chengdu reaches 3200G and the MAN exist bandwidth is over 100G. Until 2010, the transmission trunk line bandwidth will be over 8000G, and the MAN exist bandwidth will be over 450G, which will shape the international capability of 200G.

 

Aviation

Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport is the fourth largest airhub in China. In 2009 its passenger throughput reached 22 million, which is the most in the Central-Western Region. The second runway  was completed at the end of 2009.

There are 72 domestic flight routes to alllarge- and medium-size Chinese cities, over 15 flights each day to Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen. There airport also has 32 international flight routes to major cities in North America, Europe, Australia and Asia Pacific such as New York, LA, Vancouver, Paris, Frankfurt, London, Sydney, Tokyo, Seoul, Manila etc. In December 2008, a direct line between Chengdu and Taipei established. And in March 2009, flights to Karachi are also in operation.

Korean Air has opened Seoul-Chengdu-Delhi-Brussels cargo flight which qualifies Chengdu for the fifth aviation right. Lufthansa opened Chengdu-Munich cargo flight; USA 3E opened LA-Chengdu-Frankfurt cargo flight; Russia Airbridge opened Moscow-Chengdu cargo flight.

Chengdu-Hongkong cargo flight, the first direct cargo flight from Centre-West to Hongkong, has been opened in October 2008.

Chengdu Shuangliu international airport targets to be the fourth international airport in China with 8 new international passenger lines and 5 international cargo lines in scheduled within upcoming 5 years.

 

Highway

Chengdu is one of few Chinese cities with the highest density of highway network, with rapid accesses to other cities with city highways, provincial highways and the national highways. It takes 1.5 hours to ChongQing, 7.5 hours to GuiYang, 8 hours to Xi’an, 20 hours to BeiHai, 24 hours to Shanghai and 24 hours to Beijing by highways. Regular large-tonnage intercity cargo truck between Chengdu and ChongQing is planned to operate with fare 5%-10% lower than average.

 

Railway

As the railway hub of South-West China, Chengdu has 4 major railway lines: Baoji-Chengdu, Chengdu-Chongqing, Chengdu-Kunming and Dazhou-Chengdu. Chengdu-Hadapu-Lanzhou, Chengdu-Guiyang, Chengdu-Jiangyou-Xi’an, Chengdu-Chongqing intercity, Chengdu-Tibet railways are under planning. The railway lines of Sichuan will increase from 4 to 10 in future. The Number of the fixed cargo train (fixed destination, fixed route, fixed train, fixed time and fixed price) to Shanghai, Shenzhen, Lianyungang, Tianjin, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Xuzhou and Lanzhou start from Chongqing increase to 4 trains every week.

Chengdu international container centre, the largest one in China scheduled to start construction in 2008.

 

Waterway Transportation

Sichuan has abundant waterway transportation resources. The closest ports to Chengdu are Leshan, Luzhou and Yibin with access to Chongqing, Wuhan, Nanjing and Shanghai through Yangtze River. Leshan Port is 144 km away from Chengdu with cargo capacity of 8 million ton and 50,000 standard containers, maximum lifting capacity of 180 ton. The port is linked to Chengdu by Chengdu-Leshan Highway. Yibin Port is 260 km from Chengdu through Chengdu-Yibin Highway with cargo capacity of 8 million ton; Luzhou Port, 290 km away from Chengdu through Chengdu-Luzhou Highway, has cargo capacity of 10 million ton and 40,000 standard containers.

 

Logistics Services

Chengdu has many logistics companies such as Chengdu Airport Menzies Services Ltd., EHA Chengdu, Sino Trans Southwestern Company, UPS, DHL and TNT among others.

Chendgu owns an EPZ (Export Processing Zone) which conducts a supervision of “within the territory but outside of custom” and the first Bonded Logistics Center in Western China.
